How to Dress for Family Photos
TIPS ON HOW TO DRESS FOR YOUR UPCOMING FAMILY SESSION

Let’s take the deep thought and stress out of what to wear and what not to wear shall we? This way you can show up confident and ready for me to capture and deliver the dream photos you’ve always wanted.
First. Choose complimenting and muted colors
It’s true when they say “bold is beautiful” and that goes for how you dress for your photos as well. But when being bold you also want to be methodical. What I mean by this is that you can choose beautiful vibrant colors and I even encourage you to, but I suggest choosing vibrant colors that are muted in their tones. This gives you great colors while also keeping them from being a distracting element.
And when you have multiple people involved, you especially want to keep distractions down. So choose different yet complimenting colors to help you and your family be cohesive.
Good color options: burgundy, mustard yellow, dark greens, white, navy blue, brown, beige, grey, soft light pink, black.
Next. Avoid words and too many patterns
Speaking of distractions. The two biggest distractions besides bright colors is having words displayed on your clothes and having too many patterns. Instead of having too many patterns consider mixing mostly solids with a pattern and different textures. This gives a good variety that comes together nicely without going overboard.
Keep in mind that how you mix solids, patterns, and textures also depends on how many people are involved. The key is to keep it simple.
Patterns and textures to consider adding onto solids: florals, lace, polka dots, stripes, plaid.
Finally. You can look good and be comfortable!
Comfort is one of the most important factors in what you choose to wear for yourself and especially your little ones. Think of the location and activity you’ll be doing to give yourself a better idea on how to dress. If we’re hiking a mountain or tromping through muddy terrain, you most likely don’t want to be in dress shoes or wear white. If we’re doing photos at a playground, you’ll want your children in comfortable play clothes so they can fully enjoy.
If you aren’t comfortable in the clothes you’re wearing, you won’t be comfortable in front of the camera. I emphasize this because getting comfortable in front of the camera starts at home. Outside of physical comfortability, you should also make sure you wear something that makes you feel like YOU.
